PayPal has closed the account of Germany-based International Alliance, an NGO that is reported to sympathize with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

On 1 September 2018, the German bank Sparkasse Witten also closed the account of International Alliance. The PFLP is currently a listed terrorist entity in several countries including Canada and the United States. The European Union also considers the PFLP to be a terrorist organization.

Analysis: Financial technology and social media companies are increasingly closing the accounts of terrorists, extremists, and those that sympathize with them or promote extremist content. Payment processor are no exception and are  vulnerable to being exploited by extremists to move funds internationally. PayPal has been used by a number of individuals aligned with various terrorist organizations and causes.
